How are patients with uterine fibroids seen and treated?

Uterine fibroids are a common and frequent disease among women, and according to relevant statistics, their incidence rate among middle-aged women is up to 50% or more. Most patients with fibroids have no clinical symptoms and are mostly detected by ultrasound during gynecological examinations, while a few patients feel discomfort. Depending on the location of fibroids in the uterus and the size of the fibroids, they may manifest as excessive menstruation, incomplete menstruation, pelvic masses, frequent urination, lower abdominal swelling, and in a few patients, lower abdominal pain due to fibroid degeneration or compression. The most important thing is that you should be aware of the fact that you have a fibroid and how to deal with it. Generally speaking, if the fibroids are small, less than 5 cm in diameter, and there is no discomfort, you can have regular ultrasound examinations; if the fibroids are large or there is discomfort as described above, it is recommended to seek professional help from a gynecologist. At present, the treatment of uterine fibroids is still mainly surgical. There are two types of surgery, myoma removal or hysterectomy, depending on the specific situation of the fibroids and the patient’s wishes. The surgical options are laparoscopic hysterectomy or myomectomy, hysteroscopic myomectomy, transvaginal hysterectomy or myomectomy, or the traditional open hysterectomy or myomectomy. The first three types of surgery are newly developed minimally invasive surgeries in recent years, which have the advantages of less damage, faster recovery and aesthetics, and can be considered first when dealing with benign diseases such as fibroids. I have studied these three techniques for more than ten years, and I am very skillful in them, so I can use different techniques flexibly according to different situations to maximize patients’ benefits.
