Hemorrhoids may cause occult blood in the stool because one of the main symptoms of hemorrhoids is blood in the stool, which can be seen as fresh bleeding to the naked eye when there is a lot of blood in the stool, and if there is less blood in the stool, it can only be detected by testing for occult blood in the stool routine. However, the presence of occult blood does not mean that it is bleeding hemorrhoids; bleeding from any part of the entire GI tract may be detected in the stool, such as bleeding from the stomach, duodenum, and small intestine in the upper GI tract, which can also manifest as occult blood in the stool. In particular, we need to be alert to bleeding in the right hemicolectomy, which can also manifest as occult blood in the stool. Most of the right hemicolectomes have occult pain in the right abdomen and anemia as the main symptoms, and the anemia is related to the patient’s long-term chronic and occult blood loss. The bleeding in the left hemicolectomy will also lead to a positive fecal occult blood test, mainly manifested by changes in stool habits and mucus stools, so patients with a positive fecal test can be re-examined every other week, and if it is still positive, it is recommended that patients undergo colonoscopy to exclude blood in the stool caused by other intestinal diseases.
