The most common oral problem associated with HIV is secondary candidiasis infection, which often presents early and is a sign of immune deficiency, manifested by mucosal congestion and erosion, atrophy of the dorsal papillae of the tongue, abnormal or loss of conscious taste, dryness of the mouth and burning mucosal pain. If you are at risk for HIV and have the above oral symptoms, it is recommended that you seek medical attention from your local CDC or hospital as soon as possible.
