The nerve of trigeminal neuralgia originates from the second or third branch of the trigeminal nerve. The second branch mainly causes the upper alveolar nerve, which is pain in the upper teeth; the third branch is the lower alveolar nerve, which causes pain in the lower teeth. The relief methods for trigeminal neuralgia and toothache are as follows: 1. Oral treatment with carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine or gabapentin type of drugs to relieve pain; 2. For patients who cannot tolerate drugs or whose pain is not well controlled by drugs, radiofrequency destruction of trigeminal nerve, gamma knife, destruction of trigeminal hemianopia, or microvascular decompression therapy at the back of the head.
