The most obvious signs are not only localised eye redness, but also a large amount of yellow, purulent discharge that clouds the eye in the morning. It is most common in the spring and autumn and is highly contagious.
Redness in a single eye would consider keratitis, sclerositis, or iritis, acute glaucoma or subconjunctival haemorrhage, and other lesions with multiple monocular onset.
