What’s wrong with women’s eyelid fluttering?

Eyelid flutter has nothing to do with gender. Clinically, the phenomenon is called blepharospasm, which is caused after eyestrain. In female patients, the frequent occurrence of eyelid flutter may be related to excessive exposure to computers or cell phones, where the eyes are constantly in a close position, causing spasm of the ciliary muscle, which stimulates the orbicularis oculi muscle around the eyes to flutter. In female patients as well, it may be related to psychological factors, such as excessive stress at work or in life leading to mental tension. It may be related to frequent caffeine consumption, which causes mental overexcitement. It may also be caused by ocular surface diseases, such as frequent eye makeup or wearing contacts, resulting in lid gland dysfunction, which may lead to dry eye or blepharitis, or even conjunctivitis or keratitis, which can also stimulate the eyes to show spasms.
