Is it okay to leave a wound open for 20 days?

Whether or not it is a problem to leave a wound open for 20 days is related to where the wound is located. If the wound is in the extremity area, the recovery time usually takes 2 weeks or more. When the wound is removed is related to the skin tension and blood circulation rate of the affected area, as well as the age of the patient, which also affects the recovery time. In the case of elderly people, or patients who usually have insufficient nutritional intake and poor body immunity, the stitch removal time will be prolonged compared to the general population. In addition, the head and face wounds are richer in blood circulation, so the stitches can be removed in about 5 days; abdominal and chest and back wounds take about 7 days, and some may take 10 days. If infection occurs during the wound recovery period and pus is produced, the stitching time will be extended or the stitches will need to be removed in time to remove the pus and then closed again. The removal of stitches does not mean that the wound is completely healed, for example, the abdomen does not heal very well after stitch removal. It is important to avoid increased abdominal pressure, such as violent coughing and constipation, to avoid chipping the wound again. Do not rub the wound site repeatedly when taking a shower.
