A view of allograft tendon reconstruction of the cruciate ligament

It is best to perform an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction using your own tendons. We basically use autologous ligaments for over 1400 ACLs per year. Autologous ligaments have no significant effect on the athletic ability of the athlete after they are taken, and even less on the general population. The risk of rejection after allograft tendon surgery, the risk of disease transmission, the risk of too high a re-rupture rate and the risk of a potentially substandard processing are much greater compared to the possible complications of taking an autologous tendon.
