How to treat a cat bite

Cat bites should first be disinfected and treated, and relevant vaccinations should be carried out in time to prevent bacterial and viral infections. Cat saliva may contain a variety of bacteria and viruses, of which the most harmful is the rabies virus. After being bitten by a cat, the wound should be rinsed immediately. Flushing can be alternated with alkaline solution such as soap and water, and then with sterile saline to flush the wound, which should be thorough and last for more than 15 minutes. After flushing, the wound should be disinfected by applying povidone-iodine. Rabies vaccination or anti-rabies immunoglobulin, tetanus antitoxin or tetanus toxoid should be administered after emergency treatment. The appropriate vaccine needs to be selected under medical supervision according to the wound site and bite condition.
