Can I use tampons to prevent leakage of urine in a urinary fistula?

Frequent irritation of the vulva by urine can lead to dampness, itching, odour and rashes, and most doctors will arrange for surgery. To improve the success of the procedure, some cases will need to be treated conservatively for a few weeks to a few months, during which time a tampon may be considered to prevent urine leakage. Wash your hands before placing the tampon and push it into the vagina. If you can feel the presence of the tampon when you move it, you can push it in deeper, without exposing it, and remove it by pulling on the exposed thread to reduce the adverse effects of urine leakage.
