Tinnitus is no stranger to many people, a sudden abnormal ringing in the ears that can seriously affect life if it occurs frequently. So, how to do about frequent tinnitus? Here’s what causes tinnitus, what to do about it and how to treat it.
What is the cause of tinnitus?
Tinnitus is caused by different lesions of many diseases, with complex etiology and unclear mechanism of action. It is manifested as the subjective sensation of sound in the ear or skull without external sound source or electrical stimulation.
In clinical practice it is both a concomitant symptom of many diseases and the first symptom of some serious diseases. The ear is the organ of the kidney, which is the master of the kidney, and has extensive connections with other internal organs, so the imbalance of qi and blood in the five internal organs and twelve meridians can lead to tinnitus.
The tinnitus caused by the external evil and the internal phlegm stagnation in the internal organs is mostly a real disease, while the tinnitus caused by the deficiency of the internal organs and the depletion of long-term diseases is mostly a deficiency disease, whose pathologies are different, as described below.
I. Actual tinnitus
External attack of wind evil
As the ear is located on the head and face, wind evil is prone to invade the upper organs.
The first offense is the node of the lung meridian, and the point is located in the ear where the wind evil follows the lung meridian and runs up to the ear orifice.
The ear is a yang orifice, and wind-heat is a yang evil, so clinically it is more common for wind-heat evil to attack the ear.
Liver and gallbladder fire reversal
If the liver and gallbladder are incompatible with each other, if the emotions are unsuccessful, depression and anger, and liver qi is not relieved, the fire of the liver and gallbladder will rebel in the ear along the Shaoyang meridian, disturbing the clear orifices and causing tinnitus in the ear and deafness.
Phlegm and fire congestion
The ear is a clear and empty orifice. If the patient does not eat well, eats too much fat and sweet food, and is addicted to women’s tobacco and alcohol.
If the body is prone to phlegm and turbidity, or if the spleen and stomach are damaged by excessive thinking, labor and fatigue, the spleen and stomach lose health.
Insufficient fluids
If the turbidity does not descend, phlegm and dampness accumulate, the fire will be transformed into phlegm and fire, and the congestion of phlegm and fire will cause deafness and tinnitus.
Blood-Qi stasis and obstruction
If there is stagnation of Qi and anger, the channels are blocked and the ears are deprived of nourishment, resulting in tinnitus and deafness.
Deficiency tinnitus
Kidney Yin and Essence Deficiency
The kidney is the material basis for the hearing of the ear. If the kidney is deficient, or if the kidney is injured by prolonged illness or fever, or if the kidney is depleted by overwork, or if the kidney is depleted by old age, or if the kidney is depleted by the exhaustion of Tian Kwai, and the medulla oblongata is empty, tinnitus can occur. Liver and kidney essence and blood are of the same origin. If the kidney water is insufficient to control the heart fire, then the heart fire can cause tinnitus and deafness in the ears.
Deficiency of kidney without Yang
Insufficient congenital endowment, or the entry of evil into the lungs, direct breakage of Yang Qi, or serious and prolonged illness, or excessive room strain, can all deplete the kidney’s resistance, so that the ear orifice loses the kidney Yang deficiency, and the plugged water does not transform, causing tinnitus and dizziness.
Weak Spleen
The spleen is the essence of the latter, which is responsible for transporting water essence and moistening the clear orifices. If the spleen is damaged by poor diet, excessive labor, or too much thinking, it will lose its health. If the spleen is deficient, the qi and blood cannot be moistened in the ears and the meridians are empty, resulting in tinnitus, and the ear orifices are weak and easily stagnant with evil toxins.
Deficiency of blood in the heart and spleen
The heart is located in the ear and is the master of blood vessels, while the spleen is the source of biochemical energy and blood. If the spleen is deficient, the biochemistry is not sufficient, or if the heart is depleted due to excessive worrying or prolonged illness, the heart blood is insufficient, the meridians are empty, the blood vessels in the ears are not moistened by the blood, or even if the blood is deficient, blocking the vasculature and causing tinnitus.
How to prevent tinnitus
Tinnitus is when the ears hear no sound from the outside world. It is caused by neuropathy in the inner ear, and it is a problem for many people. If tinnitus lasts for a long time, it can affect hearing and even deafness. When tinnitus is prolonged and can be heard day and night, it can sometimes be so distracting that it can drive people crazy and make them want to live. So how to prevent tinnitus?
Stay away from noise
In an industrialized society, there is a lot of noise, such as noise from railroads, factories, car repair, airports, air conditioners, motors and cars in general life. If you are exposed to noise for a long time, tinnitus may occur because of the damage to the nerves in the inner ear.
Prevention of loud sound
Artillery, sharpshooters, headphones and walkman, firecrackers, rock music, disco, and electrical audio can cause tinnitus and deafness due to mechanical and acoustic vibration waves that can injure the nerve cells in the inner ear. Staying away from sound sources such as loud speakers and wearing earplugs can reduce the occurrence of injuries.
No alcohol
In many patients, tinnitus is cured naturally after they stop drinking alcohol, and a little bit of coffee and tea is not harmful. Since the inner ear is located deep inside the head bone, the blood vessels are very thin and tiny, and blood and nutrients penetrate into the inner ear in a slow manner, filling the nerves. Alcohol slowly stays in the inner ear cavity with the blood, which can damage the most sensitive and fragile inner ear nerves, causing symptoms such as tinnitus and deafness.
Although some people say that drinking red wine is good for the heart and that alcohol promotes blood circulation, blood in the heart is different from that in the inner ear, as it moves quickly in and out of the tough heart muscle and the heart, which has few nerves, so there is less chance of injury.
Do not overeat and consume too salty food
Large amounts of meat and fish lead to high cholesterol and hyperlipidemia, resulting in blockage of blood vessels and poor circulation, which can block the metabolism of the inner ear and cause nerve damage and atrophy. The consumption of too much salt causes sodium retention and systemic edema, which also causes edema in the lymphatic vessels of the inner ear, a condition equivalent to Meniere’s disease.
Avoid stressful work
Many of the patients are engineers, accountants, computer designers or supervisors, who are often under pressure due to overwork and performance, which can easily lead to tinnitus and vertigo.
Tinnitus can seriously affect work, study, family life and other aspects, and delayed treatment can also lead to cardiovascular, hypertension, diabetes and other systemic diseases. Therefore, tinnitus must be treated promptly.
