Symptoms and Treatment of Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the Achilles tendon. It is generally caused by too much stress on the calf gastrocnemius and Achilles tendon during exercise, such as playing basketball. In addition, a sudden increase in the intensity or frequency of exercise also often causes Achilles tendonitis. Typical symptoms: 1. Pain, soreness, pressure, and stiffness over and within the heel, which worsens with activity. It can occur in any area of the Achilles tendon, and the pain usually flares up in the early morning or during rest after strenuous exercise. 2.There is strong pain or pressure when the two segments of the tendon are squeezed. 3. As the lesion worsens, the tendon may become enlarged and nodules may appear in the area of the lesion. X-rays: Most of them show calcified degenerative lesions of the Achilles tendon and typical manifestations such as the formation of heel bones. Treatment: Conservative treatment, such as the use of anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, functional exercise of the affected limb, for more than six months without effect, surgery can be considered.    Surgical procedure: excision of Achilles tendon lesion + stop point reconstruction. If the degenerative lesion is extensive, autologous tendon reconstruction is required.
