Plantar warts are benign skin growths on the plantar areas of the feet, caused by infection with the human papilloma virus, and are commonly triggered by trauma and friction. Plantar warts are often found in clusters or fused to several neighboring warts and can be painful to walk on.
Some plantar warts disappear on their own without treatment; however, if the warts are accompanied by multiple lesions and significant pain, they should be treated with medication, such as retinoic acid ointment, or liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, or laser or microwave therapy, the results of which vary from person to person.
