Cervical spondylosis can cause compression of the pharynx by the vertebrae, or sympathetic cervical spondylosis can also cause a foreign body sensation in the pharynx due to sympathetic nerve compression, i.e. a conscious feeling of phlegm in the throat that cannot be coughed up or swallowed.
