Can I get a tetanus shot if I’m pregnant?

Tetanus can be administered during pregnancy. The tetanus shot is an inactivated vaccine, in which the microbial activity has been inactivated physically and chemically, and the vaccination will not affect the fetus. However, pregnant women need to be clear about the need for tetanus injections, because not all wounds must be injected with tetanus, and shallower, uncontaminated wounds do not need to be injected with tetanus. Pregnant women need tetanus vaccination in the following cases: 1) wounds in the armpits, groin and perineum, or simple wounds that have not been treated for more than 6 hours; 2) wounds contaminated by feces or soil, or wounds that have become infected; 3) wounds bitten by cats, dogs or wild animals or even people, wounds containing necrotic tissue; 4) wounds in which necrosis and gangrene have occurred, as well as firearm wounds, frostbite, burns etc. These patients are more likely to be infected by tetanus bacilli and need to be given a tetanus shot promptly, which is recommended within 24 hours. If it is only a shallow and small epidermal cut, the pain is not obvious, you can use iodophor to sterilize and prevent infection without tetanus injection. Tetanus is a toxic reaction in the human nervous system, if not treated in time will develop into muscle ankylosis, serious cases will lead to death because of laryngospasm and secondary serious lung infection, and pregnant women infected with tetanus, easy to transmit toxins to the fetus through the umbilical cord, endangering the life and health of the fetus.
