What is sudden onset deafness?

Sudden deafness (hereafter referred to as sudden deafness) is a sudden onset of sensorineural deafness of unknown origin, also known as violent deafness, which was first described by De Klevn (1944) and has been increasing in incidence year by year, with approximately 10.7 cases in 10,000 people, accounting for 2% of initial ENT cases. The incidence of the disease in both ears is 4%, with half of these cases occurring simultaneously in both ears. There is no significant difference in the incidence of gender and left and right side. The incidence of the disease increases with age, and 3/4 of the patients are 40 years old or older at the time of the disease, and its rapid onset and progress are directly related to the time of consultation.
