How long can an elderly person live with a heart rate of about 40

Elderly people with a heart rate of about 40 beats/min belong to bradycardia, and their survival time is related to the etiology. Normal human heart rate is 60-100 beats/min, <60 beats/min is classified as bradycardia, which can easily cause insufficient perfusion of tissues and organs, such as transient disorders of consciousness, syncope, cerebral ischemia or even cerebral infarction due to insufficient blood supply to the brain, and also cause cardiac arrest. Elderly patients are at risk if their heart rate is around 40 beats per minute, and their survival time is related to the etiology. Bradycardia caused by hypothyroidism or electrolyte disorders can be normalized after treatment for the cause and does not affect the patient's life expectancy; bradycardia caused by abnormalities in the cardiac conduction system, such as pathological sinus node syndrome and atrioventricular node conduction dysfunction, can increase the risk of sudden death; bradycardia caused by acute myocardial infarction can endanger the patient's life at any time. In conclusion, patients with bradycardia should seek medical attention as soon as possible, identify the cause, and actively treat it under the guidance of a physician, and if necessary, implant a pacemaker to elevate the heart rate.
