A bit of emotion about dental fillings for young children

Today, I saw a four-year-old patient in the outpatient clinic, and during the consultation, I had a little friction with the child’s parents, and then I had some feelings, which I would like to share with you here, and at the same time, I would like to share with parents who are going to bring their children to see the dentist about the general knowledge of filling. The patient was a child brought by a young mother. Before the filling, the young mother asked for the filling of the left cavity and told me that the child was fully cooperative and had filled the right one last week. The child cooperated well at the beginning and was willing to open his mouth and was not afraid of the sound made by the high-speed drill and the suction tube, but due to the deep cavity, the child started to cry and fuss because of the pain caused by the drilling. The young mother next to me was also full of displeasure and scolded, “How can you make the child suffer like this? I had to send my child to the same doctor as last time. Afterwards, I asked the doctor how did you fill the tooth of such a child, and the doctor said helplessly: “The child is too young, and I was afraid that he would not cooperate, so I just dug him with a digging spoon and did not take a drill to grind it, so I filled it directly. Here, I would like to popularize again with those young parents what is tooth decay and how to fill it when there is tooth decay. The so-called tooth decay, that is, we say tooth decay, is not what it literally means, the tooth is eaten by worms. When the cavity is shallow, there is no obvious feeling, but when the cavity is deeper, it will be sore and painful, and it will be more sensitive when eating too cold and too hot food, and it will be painful when food is embedded in the cavity. When the bacteria approaches or reaches the neurovascular cavity, there will be the symptom of pulpitis, with obvious spontaneous pain and night pain. What should we do if our child has tooth decay? In other words, the shallower the cavity is, the less discomfort will be felt when filling the tooth and the prognosis will be better. When it develops to deep cavity, the more soreness and pain will be when filling the tooth, and the higher the chance of having pain in the future. Many parents think that filling a cavity is as simple as filling the cavity. In fact, there is a high level of skill in filling a tooth. To fill a cavity, first of all, we have to grind away the bacteria-infected tooth tissue and prepare the cavity into a certain shape. The former is to avoid the secondary bacterial infection, while the latter is to make the filling material not easy to fall off, and all these work can be done only by high speed drill. When the cavity is deep, even several layers of material have to be filled in to avoid artificial irritation to the neurovascular cavity. Therefore, if you fill a child’s tooth, in order to avoid making the child painful and crying, just give the child a simple treatment of cavity and fill it directly, this consequence can be imagined. Every child is the baby of the family, and parents are all very heartbroken and don’t want to let their children suffer a little. Therefore, I hope the young parents will protect the child’s teeth from the early childhood, and come to the hospital for treatment in time if the child is found to have caries, and if the child cries and is not willing to cooperate during the treatment, try to do more ideological work for the child. If you really don’t want your child to suffer a little bit, there is a special children’s dental department, where there are very professional and safe analgesic measures, and the whole treatment process can be completed very smoothly.
