One of the misconceptions: the propaganda is all over the place, propaganda of calcium deficiency for all people, people follow the propaganda of calcium supplementation. In fact, at present, the daily calcium intake of our residents is 400 mg, and the recommended daily calcium intake published by the Nutrition Society is 800 mg, so the calcium intake level is indeed relatively low. But on the other hand, the calcium intake of our residents varies greatly from region to region, and not everyone is deficient in calcium. Myth No. 2: A simple test in shopping malls and pharmacies can determine whether there is a calcium deficiency. In fact, the “single photon bone density tester” placed in these places can only measure the ulna and radius of the human arm, and the main danger of calcium loss in the human body is to cause calcium deficiency in the lumbar spine and hip bone, so this test is not accurate. Myth No. 3: You must eat calcium supplements to quickly replenish calcium. Myth No. 4: The more expensive calcium products are sold, the higher the calcium content, the higher the absorption rate, and the better the effect. Some calcium supplements claim “good deposition, fast absorption”, some claim “small particles”, and even launched “atomic calcium”, “nano-calcium”, so that people think that the smaller the calcium, the easier to absorb. Myth No. 5: The elderly can prevent osteoporosis by simply taking calcium supplements. For the elderly, calcium deficiency is an important cause of osteoporosis. Calcium supplementation alone cannot prevent osteoporosis comprehensively, and calcium intake needs to be strengthened by improving dietary structure and taking calcium supplements. Myth No. 6: Children must also take calcium supplements. In fact, calcium supplementation for children should be based on dietary supplements. Myth #7: Calcium supplements containing vitamin D are preferred. Taking large amounts of calcium supplements with added vitamin D can produce cumulative toxicity.
