Obesity and menstrual disorders

Irregular menstruation is a general term that includes early menstruation, delayed menstruation, irregular menstruation, excessive menstruation, scanty menstruation and amenorrhea. Most obese women with menstrual disorders show delayed menstruation, usually more than 7 days, or once in several months, and the volume of menstruation gradually decreases until amenorrhea, and the longer the menstrual disorders, the more weight gain, and a vicious cycle occurs. Even some obese people cannot have children, such as polycystic ovary syndrome. It is generally believed that obesity is related to living habits, most fat people have a strong appetite, love to eat sweets and greasy food, do not like to exercise, long-term constipation. In this way, the long-term accumulation of calories causes excessive fat distribution and weight gain. Obesity not only leads to abnormal fat and sugar metabolism, but also causes disorders of sex hormone secretion. Most obese female patients have hyperleptinemia and leptin resistance, hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance, hyperandrogenemia, and under their combined effect, it leads to menstrual irregularities, chronic anovulation and even infertility. Weight reduction is an important treatment for obese patients with menstrual irregularities. Studies have shown that a 5-10% reduction in body weight can lead to a 30% reduction in visceral fat, and a 5% reduction in body weight is expected to restore menstruation until ovulation and even the possibility of pregnancy.
