Precautions for progesterone injection

  Pregnant women who are successfully treated with assisted conception often need to receive progesterone injections for up to almost 2 months, and recently it has been noticed that some patients have developed hard nodules at the eye of the intramuscular injection in the buttocks, and their skin is red and swollen. So what is going on here? And what can be done to prevent it?  Progesterone injection precautions Progesterone can cause secretory phase changes in the endometrium during the late menstrual period, providing favorable conditions for the fertilized egg to implant. After implantation of the fertilized egg, progesterone reduces the excitability of the pregnant uterus, providing a safe and comfortable environment for the growth of the fetus. Pregnant women receiving assisted conception often do not produce enough progesterone on their own and need to receive exogenous progesterone to maintain their pregnancy during the sensitive early stages of pregnancy.  Progesterone is a commonly used progesterone drug. Due to the long duration of progesterone intramuscular injection treatment and local muscle irritation after multiple injections, it is easy to cause malabsorption and drug accumulation causing adverse reactions such as hard nodules, redness, swelling, itching and local pain. Malabsorption can directly affect the blood concentration of the drug and can not play a normal therapeutic effect, affecting the success rate of embryo transfer surgery, while the appearance of local hard nodules, which can also bring some pain. Therefore, the injection of progesterone should pay attention to the following points: 1, try to inject at a relatively fixed time, using the method of double buttock injection in turn, which is conducive to the absorption of the drug and avoid the collection of drugs on one side.  2.After pulling out the needle, the injection site should be pressed for 5 minutes to prevent the drug from penetrating into the fat layer to affect absorption.  3.Appropriate activities, also local massage, muscle activity is conducive to the absorption of drugs.  4, hot compress: use hot towel wet compress. After 2-3 hours after the injection of progesterone, use a warm towel to apply to the injection site for 30 minutes, 2-3 times a day. Because after intramuscular injection, the needle eye area 2-3 hours to completely close. If the hot compress immediately after injection, harmful microorganisms are easy to enter from the eye of the needle, resulting in inflammatory reactions such as redness, swelling, heat, pain and itching.  5, potato compress: fresh potatoes washed and peeled, cut into 1.5-2.5mm slices with a knife, compress cover the swollen and painful hard parts. You can also mash potatoes into puree, wrapped in gauze and then applied externally to the injection site. The top dressing area is slightly larger than the swollen area, covered with plastic film to keep the potato moist. Each time the dressing 30-60 minutes, 2-3 times a day, when the potato discoloration should be replaced.
