After getting trigeminal neuralgia, early treatment is basically medication. If the effect of medication is not satisfactory, such as severe pain, seriously affecting daily life and work, or drug allergy, or drugs have obvious side effects, surgical treatment can be considered. Surgery is minimally invasive, safe and effective. Trigeminal neuralgia can be treated medically or surgically. Patients with severe trigeminal neuralgia can consider microvascular decompression surgery after regular medication for a period of time, greater than six months, and if the medication is not effective or the effectiveness of the medication is significantly diminished. Some patients with drug allergy or serious side effects, 3 months course of the disease can also be operated. Those whose pain severely affects work, life and rest should have surgery as early as possible. For those aged less than 75 years, microvascular decompression surgery is recommended for treatment, and for those older than 75 years, surgical methods such as decompression radiofrequency disruption or balloon compression. Those whose trigeminal neuralgia symptoms are not controlled or recur after other surgeries can choose microvascular decompression treatment. Microvascular decompression surgery must exclude secondary trigeminal neuralgia, such as intracerebral tumor, vascular malformation, aneurysm, arachnoiditis, etc. The patient is generally in good condition and can tolerate the surgery.
