What should I do if I have a fetal abnormality?

1.Can we confirm the diagnosis? At present, there are consultation from all over the country, based on the ultrasound examination results, but because of the different diagnostic standards of fetal medicine in China, it is difficult for me to treat all the ultrasound results from all over the country according to one disease, at the same time, the ultrasound examination does not represent the clinical diagnosis, it needs clinical fetal doctors to make clinical judgment and decide the treatment plan based on the ultrasound examination results, so the ultrasound examination results from outside hospitals cannot be used as my diagnosis. Therefore, the ultrasound results from outside hospitals cannot be used as the basis for my diagnosis, but can be used as my original data. 2.Whether to induce labor? Most of the mothers-to-be who come to me want to keep their babies and do not want to induce labor, and more than 90% of the problems in my clinic do not need to be induced because most of the problems in ultrasound examination are local structural abnormalities of the fetus, which do not affect the overall development and growth of the fetus, except for individual lethal abnormalities, most of them will grow with the fetus until birth, so in general, it is not necessary to induce labor after excluding lethal diseases. The majority of the fetuses will grow with the fetus until birth, except for some lethal abnormalities. 3.Is prenatal treatment or intervention needed? In fetal surgical diseases, about 5% of the diseases are likely to grow and develop in the uterus, and gradually the fetus’ condition will worsen, which may eventually lead to intrauterine death without any treatment; there are some that do not die in the uterus, but may have problems at birth or may lead to death. This requires prenatal fetal treatment, the method is useful drugs, interventional or open surgery, etc., but at present the means and effects of intervention are not up to 90%, generally in the 60-70%, so it is generally very necessary to consider intrauterine treatment of the fetus. 4. Do I need treatment immediately after birth? As mentioned in the previous 3, for the possibility of death at birth or the possibility of clinical symptoms, especially respiratory diseases need to be treated at birth or early intervention in the neonatal period, which is not yet paid attention to by the hospitals in China, the seamless transition from the fetal to the neonatal period is very much emphasized in recent years in international perinatal medicine and fetal medicine, which can reduce perinatal complications, such as hypoxia It can reduce perinatal complications, such as cerebral palsy or neurological injury due to hypoxia, aspiration pneumonia or lung injury due to excessive amniotic fluid, etc.; while for those that can be smoothly transitioned to the neonatal period after birth, early surgery or elective surgery is still needed after precise evaluation, such as septal hernia and gastrointestinal atresia that can be smoothly transitioned to the neonatal period after birth still need active surgical treatment in the neonatal period; while for those that are not very urgent but can be treated electively after evaluation, such as congenital For those whose conditions are not urgent but can be treated electively after evaluation, such as congenital common bile duct cyst and severe hydronephrosis, etc. 5, about the cost of treatment This has always been a knot in my heart, our country has a lot of money invested in many livelihood issues, but in my case basically not, and I also hope to have the opportunity to get everyone’s appeal and support. Because all parents pay for themselves, for young parents do have a certain pressure, the general case of newborn treatment a process down to about 20 to 30,000, but specific to each disease is still a big difference, the most go to 300,000. But now if you need help, you can get it through the media and social charity organizations. 6.What will happen in the future after the treatment? This is the most concerned issue for mothers, and is also a problem that the whole society worries and wonders about. They worry about whether they can live like normal people in the future, whether they can be soldiers, athletes, join the army, etc. In our fetal medicine department, we face these problems almost every day. Of course, this is the result of medical efforts.
