Is there a genetic link to atlantoaxial subluxation (including subluxation) and do families need further testing?

There is a genetic correlation between congenital atlantoaxial subluxation (including subluxation), but the mechanism is not yet well understood. If family members of patients with congenital atlantoaxial subluxation (especially children and adolescents) present with symptoms such as neck deviation, short neck, low posterior hairline and abnormal neck movement, further investigations are required.
In addition, families of patients with congenital atlantoaxial subluxation should also closely monitor their own health conditions, avoid factors that may trigger atlantoaxial subluxation such as neck trauma where possible, and have regular check-ups when necessary to enable early detection and treatment.
