”In ophthalmology, “pink eye” is called “acute conjunctivitis. It is an acute eye infection caused by a bacterial or viral infection. The conjunctiva is a smooth, transparent film that covers the greenish-white eye (sclera) around the black eye (cornea). The inflammation begins with red, dendritic congestion of the eye, and in the case of epidemic hemorrhagic conjunctivitis caused by a virus, there is also subconjunctival lamellar hemorrhage, which is highly contagious and can cause an epidemic outbreak. Another symptom is an increase in eye discharge, i.e., eye discharge, especially in the morning when waking up, when the upper and lower eyelids are often stuck. This is the main characteristic of conjunctivitis. If it is caused by bacteria, the discharge is often yellow and purulent, while if it is caused by a virus, it will be a watery discharge. In this case, the eyes feel hot, itchy and irritated, and the eyes seem to be uncomfortable with sand, and in severe cases, there is also fear of light and tears. Red eye is a highly contagious eye disease that develops rapidly, usually within 1 to 2 days of infection with bacteria or viruses, and generally develops in both eyes one after another. It is highly contagious, can be repeatedly infected, and is prevalent quickly, often in one person, causing the spread of the disease to the whole family and school within 1 to 2 weeks. Red eyes are common in the spring and autumn, and the current season is the high incidence of red eyes. However, the province will soon face cooling, which should not cause an outbreak of epidemic red-eye. The spread of red eye is mainly through contact transmission. The most common is the eye – hand – eye transmission. It is usually spread by sharing towels, washbasins and other items with people with “pink eye”. Sometimes you can also be infected by touching objects used by the patient. So, wash your hands with soap, wash your face with running water, and don’t swim in public pools during the epidemic season. Once you have “pink eye”, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible, because the first thing to do is to clarify whether it is caused by a virus or bacteria. Antibiotics are very effective for bacterial conjunctivae, but they are not effective for viral conjunctivitis, but only for preventing bacterial infections. There are no specific medications for viral conjunctivitis. Prevention should be the main focus. Both eye drops and eye ointments should be used exclusively to avoid cross infection. Some patients like to cover their eyes with gauze or eye shields due to eye discomfort, but do not cover the affected eye and do not bandage or wear eye shields. Poor discharge of secretions can cause aggravation of the disease and prolong the course of the disease. However, red eye does not usually affect vision, but may have temporary blurred vision. If the infection affects the black eye, the cornea, the symptoms will worsen and there will be a certain degree of vision loss. Prompt and effective treatment is required. In case of bacterial infection, the most effective antibiotic eye drops can be selected according to the strains examined, and depending on the severity of the disease, eye drops can be ordered once every 2-3 hours or every hour. Ciprofloxacin, erythromycin or sarsin type ointment, each time before the point of the drug need to be scrubbed clean secretions, viral infection of conjunctivitis, in addition to the above drug treatment, but also need to add antiviral eye drops such as ganciclovir, etc., 4-6 times a day, if necessary, can also apply interferon, etc. When the symptoms are controlled, eye drops still need to be ordered for about 1 week to prevent recurrence.
