Swollen and painful gums after wisdom tooth extraction

Gum swelling and pain after wisdom tooth extraction is a very common post-operative reaction to dental extraction. It is due to a certain degree of tissue trauma caused during wisdom tooth extraction on the one hand, and may be caused by infection of the extraction wound on the other hand. Within twenty-four hours after wisdom tooth extraction, local cold compresses can be applied to relieve swelling and pain on the face. Medical ice bags and chilled bottled mineral water can be applied to the corresponding cheek side to relieve the swelling and pain after tooth extraction. Anti-inflammatory treatment is also recommended, using mouthwash with anti-inflammatory function to rinse, such as using tinidazole mouthwash, and also oral anti-inflammatory drugs, such as oral cephalosporin capsules, amoxicillin capsules, metronidazole, etc. After tooth extraction, it is not recommended to use the side of the tooth extraction to chew food too early, and the food should be mainly warm, cool and soft to prevent infection of the tooth extraction wound.
