Patient Question: Disease:Bronchiectasis Description: Tests and labs: CT: Bronchiectasis in both lungs, severe in the left lower lung. Treatment (current medication or recent surgery): After half a month of treatment with ceftazidime, improved. History: Frequent cold, cough and spitting for more than 10 years, relieved by antibiotics. In the last 1 month or so it has worsened. Help wanted:Can conservative treatment be curative? Doctor: The main purpose of conservative treatment is to eliminate infection, stop progressive damage to the airway, improve symptoms and stop deterioration, thus improving quality of life. Only a small percentage of bronchiectasis requires surgery. For patients who do not have good results with medical treatment or do not want to take medication for a long time and have limited lesions, surgery is a better choice.
