Frequently asked questions about the use of braces in the treatment of hip dislocation

Many patients with hip dislocations are receiving braces, but there are many questions about when a brace is needed. What kind of brace should I wear? How long should the brace be worn? If parents have any questions not mentioned below, they can contact me by phone and I will try my best to talk to you on the same day to answer your questions. 1.When do I need to bring a brace? Brace treatment is one of the means of conservative treatment for hip dislocation. It is mostly used for children aged 6-18 months who have simple acetabular dysplasia, subluxation or total dislocation after reset plaster fixation. 2.What kind of brace should I bring? At present, there are many different kinds of braces in China. However, no matter what kind of brace is used, if the angle of hip abduction exceeds 60 degrees, it is dangerous! The 90 degree abduction brace that is still in use is one of the most important reasons for the high incidence of bleeding and even serious necrosis of the femoral head in children with middle hip loss! In a medical market that is still not very regulated, parents must be careful to choose a good brace, otherwise it will be counterproductive! Parents who want to bring a brace for their children can contact me by phone to help you see what kind of brace is suitable for your child. 3.How long do I need to wear a brace? The duration of brace treatment usually does not exceed half a year, and in a few cases it can be extended to 9 months. The effect of prolonged brace is generally not good. 4.How do I need to take care of and pay attention to some problems in the process of wearing the brace? It may be necessary to review the brace once every half month or once a month at the beginning, or once every 1.5 months afterwards. During the review, the doctor will check whether the brace fits properly, whether it needs to be adjusted, and how the hip joint is recovering. I use ultrasound more often in my review, so that I can reduce the radiation exposure from the multiple radiographs. When the ultrasound examination is normal, before deciding whether to remove the brace, it is important to take bilateral orthopantomographies of the hip to determine the recovery. If the child has been wearing a brace for a period of time and is considering removing it, the parents can take the child for an ultrasound and upload it to the internet and then talk to me one-on-one via phone consultation. The brace can be worn over soft fall clothing and pants, keeping an eye on the skin. While wearing the brace, the child can sit, lie down, hold, etc. If you have any further questions about the brace treatment of hip dislocation, I would like to ask your child’s parents and I will add to them. Or you can consult with me directly by phone for one-on-one communication.
