Basic knowledge of orthodontics

Oral orthodontics is mainly for the treatment of oral and maxillofacial deformities, and mainly for the treatment of dental malformations in the lower third of the face and maxillary and mandibular deformities (malalignment). Orthodontic treatment can be divided into: simple orthodontic treatment and combined orthodontic and orthognathic (surgical) treatment. The former treats dental malocclusion and mild to moderate jaw deformity. The latter treats more serious skeletal deformities, such as “geodontia”. The majority of patients only need orthodontic treatment, but orthognathic orthognathic (surgical) treatment is only considered for a few severe upper and lower jaw deformities that have missed the best treatment time.
