Why ringing in the ears may be a precursor to disease

Tinnitus is not a disease; it is simply a common symptom, a sensation of sound produced when there is no corresponding external sound source or electrical stimulus. The prevalence of tinnitus is high in the population, with approximately 24 million people in China suffering from its effects on sleep, energy, work and social skills. There are many causes and factors affecting tinnitus, and many diseases can be accompanied by tinnitus, while tinnitus is closely related to social and psychological factors 1. External ear disease: When cerumen embolism in the external ear canal is blocked by the external ear canal, it is an obstacle to the transmission of sound. 2. Middle ear lesions: Middle ear lesions cause changes in the impedance of the middle ear sound transmission mechanism, which affects sound energy conduction and causes conductive deafness and weakens the masking effect of autologous noise, while the subjective sensation of tinnitus arises due to the relative enhancement of bone conduction and the strengthening of sound transmission in the body. Vascular pulsatile tinnitus can also be caused by vascular lesions within the tympanic chamber such as jugular vein bullae. 3. Cochlear and central lesions: Most tinnitus is caused by cochlear lesions, but some are caused by postcochlear or central lesions. 4.Systemic diseases: Some systemic diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, anemia, hyperlipidemia, hyperthyroidism or hypotension, kidney disease, diabetes, neurodegeneration, inflammation, trauma, drug intoxication, etc. may cause tinnitus to different degrees. 5. The relationship between tinnitus and heart factors: A lot of research shows that tinnitus is closely related to heart factors, and tinnitus can cause a series of heart disorders, which in turn can aggravate tinnitus. Like many clinical diseases, early diagnosis and treatment will bring good results. If you have tinnitus, don’t be nervous and pay attention to adjust your mood and sleep in time. If the tinnitus does not improve for 1 to 2 days, you must go to the hospital immediately. This is because tinnitus is a precursor of some diseases. For example, some ear diseases, such as sudden deafness and Meniere’s disease, often have tinnitus as the first symptom. Especially for deafness with mainly low-frequency drop, patients often ignore the symptoms of deafness. If they do not visit the hospital early for hearing check and timely treatment, the best time for treatment is likely to be delayed, resulting in irreversible consequences. In addition, among some non-auricular diseases that can cause tinnitus, such as hypertension, anemia, jugular venous bullae, cervical vascular malformation, and auditory neuroma, there are often only symptoms of tinnitus in the early stage. If the cause of tinnitus can be clarified in time before it causes obvious damage, active and effective treatment measures can be taken, and the best time for surgery can be mastered. The treatment of tinnitus is multifaceted, but the effect varies from person to person Psychological counseling, medication, biofeedback therapy, and tinnitus masking therapy can all produce certain efficacy, but the effect varies from person to person. Therefore, it is important to maintain a good mood and an optimistic attitude towards life. In outpatient clinics, we often hear patients tell us that their tinnitus temporarily diminishes or disappears when they are at work or when they focus on something of interest. This shows that using active dominant activities can relieve the concern about tinnitus and thus achieve the effect of relieving tinnitus. This suggests that active self-help is one of the treatments for tinnitus. Some patients who have tinnitus for a long period of time have become fearful and upset, and are in a state of restlessness and confusion all day long. For such patients, a comprehensive audiological examination and analysis should be performed early to exclude other causes, to relieve their minds of concerns, and to give effective comfort treatment, which may be more effective. Tinnitus is like an early warning system for the disease, sounding the alarm for the disease at the right time. Once tinnitus appears, we should always be alert to tinnitus-related diseases, and early examination, treatment and intervention can often achieve twice the result with half the effort.
