I. Initial consultation
Auntie Liu came to our clinic accompanied by her family. She said she was usually healthy and had no basic diseases, but three years ago she found a vaginal mass prolapsed after urination, but it was not accompanied by pain, itching, bleeding and other uncomfortable symptoms, and she could retrieve it by hand. However, in recent months, not only did the swelling come out of the vagina when going to the toilet, but it also came out after squatting underground for too long, and there were symptoms such as painful urination, urgent urination and frequent urination. According to Auntie Liu’s description of symptoms and physical examination, it was found that the prolapsed mass was the uterine body and cervix, and the prolapse was serious, and at this stage it could all prolapse out of the vaginal opening.
II. Treatment history
In order to further clarify the diagnosis and exclude other diseases, I suggested Auntie Liu to have an abdominal ultrasound examination to clarify the situation of other organs. Due to the seriousness of the prolapsed vaginal mass and Auntie Liu’s age, direct surgery was recommended. After discussion with Auntie Liu and her family, it was agreed that the treatment plan was vaginal hysterectomy and anterior and posterior vaginal wall repair, so after the preoperative preparation according to the process, Auntie Liu underwent surgery under general anesthesia, which was relatively successful. After the operation, cefuroxime sodium for injection was used to prevent infection. Auntie Liu recovered well after 2 weeks of hospitalization and could be discharged home to recuperate.
III. Treatment effect
Auntie Liu’s surgery was successful and there were no serious complications. When Auntie Liu was discharged from the hospital, her wound had basically recovered and she did not experience any pain or other discomfort. When Auntie Liu came to the hospital for follow-up one month later, she reported that there was no vaginal mass prolapse, and other symptoms such as painful urination, urinary urgency, and frequent urination also improved effectively and returned to normal. She also found that the wound had completely healed and no vaginal mass had come out, so she was sure that she was cured.
IV. Notes
We are glad that Auntie Liu’s uterine prolapse was treated in time, but we need to advise Auntie Liu and her family to pay more attention to bed rest and avoid drastic movements before Auntie Liu’s body fully recovers, so as not to cause the surgical wound to open and bleed, pain and other symptoms; her family needs to pay more attention to give Auntie Liu more easily digestible food and avoid eating greasy and spicy food so as not to cause constipation and aggravate the The degree of pain.
V. Personal insight
Uterine prolapse is a common clinical disease, mostly due to the relaxation of pelvic floor tissue after old age, as in the case of 63-year-old Auntie Liu, who has a prolapsed vaginal mass. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to rehabilitation after childbirth to avoid uterine prolapse. If a vaginal mass prolapses, you need to seek medical treatment as soon as possible, so that you don’t come to the doctor because you are afraid of trouble and don’t want to spend money, as Liu’s aunt did, and delay mild uterine prolapse until the condition becomes serious.
