What are the trigeminal neuralgia treatments

It was first reported by Nicolas Andri in France in 1756. It is called “painful twitch” because most of the attacks are accompanied by facial muscle twitching. It is a recurrent transient paroxysmal pain confined to the innervation area of the trigeminal nerve. The etiology and pathogenesis of primary trigeminal neuralgia are still unclear, but most of the lesions are thought to be in the trigeminal meningeal nerve and its sensory nerve roots. Secondary trigeminal neuralgia, also known as symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia, is often a clinical symptom of a disease, such as caused by tumors, inflammation, trauma, and lesions in the cerebellopontine angle and adjacent areas of the trigeminal nerve branches. Trigeminal neuralgia generally presents as transient recurrent severe pain in the distribution area of the trigeminal nerve. It is a sudden, intense, lightning-like, transient pain in the face, mouth and jaw, like knife cutting, burning, pinprick or electric shock tearing pain, mostly occurs when talking, eating or washing the face, each time lasting several seconds or tens of seconds to 1~2 min. There are several methods for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia as follows: 1, drug treatment can be used according to the condition of carbamazepine, which has a better effect on trigeminal neuralgia. It has good effect on trigeminal neuralgia. 2, nerve block or closure therapy when drug therapy is ineffective or has adverse reactions, and the pain is severe, nerve trunk or ganglion block therapy is feasible. 3.Radiofrequency electrocoagulation therapy is performed by inserting a radiofrequency electrocoagulation needle into the hemimelia percutaneously under the supervision and guidance of X-ray or CT, and heating it to 65~75℃ for 1min, which can selectively destroy the nociceptive fibers of trigeminal nerve to achieve pain relief. 4.The most common clinical surgical treatment is microvascular decompression. 5.Gamma knife treatment of intractable trigeminal neuralgia also has very good efficacy.
