Surgical treatment of uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids, also known as uterine smooth muscle tumors, are the most common type of benign tumor of the female genitalia. Most of them are asymptomatic, but once symptoms appear, they often affect women’s health. Main symptoms 1. Menstrual changes: The most common symptoms are shortened menstrual cycle, increased menstrual volume, prolonged menstrual period, irregular vaginal bleeding, etc. 2, abdominal mass: abdominal distension, lower abdomen to find a mass, accompanied by a feeling of falling. 3, increased leucorrhea: increased leucorrhea, sometimes producing a large amount of pus and blood discharge and rotting flesh-like tissue discharge with odor. 4.Pain: Generally, patients do not have abdominal pain, but often have lower abdominal cramps, back pain, etc. When the subplasmalemma myoma is twisted, acute abdominal pain can occur, and when the myoma is red, abdominal pain is severe. 5.Compression symptoms: Myoma can compress the bladder, urethra or rectum, causing frequent urination, difficult urination, urinary retention or constipation. Or compression of ureter may cause ureteral or pelvic effusion. 6.Infertility: Myoma may distort the fallopian tube or distort the uterine cavity to prevent the fertilized egg from being laid, resulting in infertility. 7. Secondary anemia: If the patient has prolonged excessive menstruation, it may lead to secondary anemia and symptoms such as general weakness, pallor, shortness of breath and panic. Treatment The treatment of uterine fibroids is divided into surgical treatment and non-surgical treatment. So far, there is a lack of safe and effective non-surgical treatment methods with low recurrence rate, and surgical treatment is still the first choice. Total hysterectomy is the most common surgical treatment for uterine fibroids. The uterus can be removed through open, laparoscopic, and transvaginal routes. At present, minimally invasive surgery represented by laparoscopy and transvaginal surgery has replaced most of the open hysterectomy, which has the advantages of light pain, aesthetics and fast recovery, and is welcomed by the majority of patients and friends. Myomectomy is currently the best treatment for young patients with fibroids who require preservation of reproductive function, except for the possibility of malignancy. Most women are worried that hysterectomy will affect the shape of women and their sexual life after surgery, thus they often have some abnormal psychological reactions before and after hysterectomy, such as anxiety, fear, low self-esteem, etc. These worries are actually unnecessary.
