How long a cast needs to be fixed for a child with a bruxism fracture must be determined by the specific fracture site or the age of the head. In the case of a bruxism fracture in a child around 6-7 years of age, the upper extremity fracture is fixed for about 3-4 weeks, and there is basically very visible bone scab growth that allows removal of the cast. If it is a lower extremity fracture, such as a foot and ankle fracture is also immobilized for 3-4 weeks. If the fracture occurs in the tibia or femur, it must be immobilized for about 4-6 weeks. Also, the younger the age, the better the bone’s ability to grow. In the case of children aged 2-3 years or 1 year, the duration of fixation is likely to be relatively reduced by about 1-2 weeks.
