Fire boils, clinically, refer to acute purulent infections of hair follicles and their surrounding tissues. It often presents as a local inflammatory papule, swelling with pain, and in severe cases, fever. In terms of treatment, we need to choose different treatment options according to the severity of the condition. 1. Minor fire boils: Some minor fire boils can be absorbed or broken after a period of time without special treatment, but we need to pay attention to local hygiene; 2. Seriously red and swollen fire boils: If the fire boils are seriously red and swollen, we can use antibiotic ointment or take oral antibiotics, together with physical therapy such as ultra-short wave and infrared light. The physiotherapy measures can be taken. The common antibiotic ointment is erythromycin ointment, and the oral antibiotics are amoxicillin capsules, etc.; 3. Abscess on fire boils: If the swelling of fire boils is very obvious, and there is obvious pressure pain and fluctuation, it may indicate a serious infection and abscess. The patient will usually have an accompanying elevated body temperature, which can reach 38.5°C. If the infection is severe, anti-inflammatory drugs such as levofloxacin should be given intravenously, the boil should be incised and drained in a timely manner, and the wound area should be kept hygienic and should not be touched easily after surgery. It is important to note that when the fire boil is on the upper nose, side of the nose, or lip, it must not be squeezed. Because the blood vessels in these areas may be directly connected to the skull and brain, when compressed by external force, the infectious agent in the blood can flow backward into the brain, causing life-threatening intracranial infection and cavernous sinus embolism.
