The human perineum actually has two concepts, one is the perineum in the broad sense and the other is the perineum in the narrow sense, and the scope of the two perineums is different. The perineum in the broad sense refers to all the soft tissues in the area below the pelvic diaphragm, which can be divided into two areas, the urogenital triangle in the front and the anal triangle in the back, bounded by the pubic symphysis in the front and the caudal end in the back. The perineum in a narrow sense is the area between the genitals and the anus, mainly some muscular fibrous tissues, excluding the anus and the genitourinary system, connecting the vagina and the anus. What we usually call the perineum is the perineum in a narrow sense. In Chinese medicine, the perineum is an acupuncture point. The female perineum is located at the midpoint of the line connecting the posterior union of the labia majora and the anus, and it is the starting point of the Chong, Ren and Dou veins. By stimulating the perineum point, it can play the role of regulating the menstruation and strengthening the kidneys, clearing dampness and heat, and returning yang to the suzerainty, mainly for the treatment of diseases such as yin pain, difficulty in urination, constipation, sweating and dampness in the yin, and epilepsy. Women should understand the anatomical location of the perineum and its physiological significance to the human body, pay attention to the protection of the perineum and keep the local cleanliness and hygiene to facilitate the prevention of local diseases.
