When a patient has a dislocation of the jaw joint, the main symptoms are inability to close the mouth, pain, difficulty in swallowing and speech, and drooling. The symptoms are more pronounced in bilateral dislocations. In unilateral subluxation the above symptoms are manifested on the subluxed side, with the jaw deviating towards the non-subluxed side.
