Can a mole on your body become cancerous?

Most of the moles on the body will not become cancerous, but a few of them may become cancerous, which is related to the type of moles, the more common ones are pigmented nevus, epidermal nevus, sebaceous nevus and so on.
1. Pigmented nevus: pigmented nevus includes halo nevus, blue nevus, Mongolian spot, nevus of Ota, nevus of Ito, congenital giant nevus, etc. Most of the pigmented nevus will not be cancerous, but if it is a congenital giant nevus, the larger the area of the nevus is, the higher the risk of malignant transformation.
2. Epidermal nevus: Epidermal nevus is a benign lesion caused by overgrowth of epidermal cells, most of which will stop growing at puberty and will not be life-threatening, but a very small number of patients may have cancerous transformation.
3. Sebaceous nevus: Sebaceous nevus is a misshapen tumor formed by abnormal development of sebaceous glands, which may get bigger after puberty and may develop different kinds of benign or malignant tumors.
There are many other types of moles, and the chances of developing cancer are also different. If you have moles on your body and there are abnormalities, you should consult the doctor in time and follow the medical advice to standardize the treatment.
