How to treat penile sebaceous gland ectasia

Sebaceous ectopia of the penis is a normal physiological variant that does not require treatment under normal circumstances. However, it may appear as a corn-like grain the size of a grain of rice and does not require treatment if there is no particular discomfort. If sebaceous gland ectopia is secondary to a sebaceous cyst or if a bacterial infection forms an abscess, local anti-inflammatory and symptomatic treatment is required. Generally, Bactrim, or erythromycin ointment can be applied. The incidence is increased if the patient has diabetes, mainly due to peripheral neuropathy caused by diabetes, as well as a decrease in the immunity of the skin mucosa against bacteria. In the case of simple sebaceous ectasia of the penis, there is only a slight change in appearance. In normal physiological function and daily life, it does not affect the human body in any way, nor does it affect male sexual function or the normal metabolism of the skin or perspiration. Therefore, sebaceous ectopia of the penis does not require special treatment.
