Children should not eat before bedtime

Throat reflux disease in children is very common in clinical practice. In our daily work, we often encounter parents who bring their children to the clinic with symptoms of involuntary throat clearing and dry cough. The symptoms are involuntary throat clearing and dry cough. What is pharyngeal reflux disease? As the name suggests, it is a condition in which the contents of the stomach reflux into the throat, irritating the mucous membrane of the throat and causing a series of symptoms. It often coexists with gastroesophageal reflux, but the two diseases are interrelated and different from each other. The main symptoms include hoarseness, foreign body sensation in the throat, frequent throat clearing, cough, excessive mucus, dyspnea and acid reflux heartburn. Gastric acid suppression therapy combined with lifestyle changes is currently the main treatment for pharyngeal reflux disease. Lifestyle changes include: to reduce nocturnal reflux, raise the foot of the bed 15-20 cm, avoid eating before bedtime, reduce overfeeding at dinner, avoid coffee, chocolate and high-fat food stimulation, avoid sweet food and acidic fruits (orange, prune, tangerine, etc.), and control body weight. In some children, the symptoms of throat discomfort can be significantly relieved after changing the lifestyle. If the symptoms are not relieved even after the children change their bad lifestyle, they need to be treated with a combination of stomach acid inhibiting drugs. It is recommended that children who do not have good results after fasting should be accompanied by their parents to the ear, nose and throat department and pediatric department of an experienced hospital.
