Is radiotherapy effective for superior vena cava syndrome?

Radiotherapy is effective in most cases of superior vena cava syndrome due to malignancy, providing relief in 70%-90% of patients. Even in non-small cell lung cancer or other tumours that are less sensitive to chemotherapy, radiotherapy still provides symptomatic relief in 70% of patients. Giving high-dose fractionation followed by conventional fractionation can provide faster symptomatic relief within 2 weeks than conventional radiotherapy.
