What is gestational trophoblastic disease?

Gestational trophoblastic disorders (GTD) are a group of disorders derived from placental trophoblasts and can be classified according to histology as staphyloma, erosive staphyloma, choriocarcinoma, placental site trophoblastic tumours and epithelioid trophoblastic tumours. The traditional view is that all are malignant, except for staphyloma.
