Is painless blood in the stool a form of bowel cancer?

Tumours of the digestive tract do occur with blood in the stool, but painless blood in the stool is not necessarily bowel cancer.
Inflammatory bowel disease, bacterial intestinal infections, thrombocytopenia and haemorrhoids can all present with painless blood in the stool. Therefore, if symptoms of blood in the stool occur, early examination at a hospital is recommended to identify the cause and then treat it.
