Frequent sneezing and runny nose is not necessarily a cold

Some people keep sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion and tears when the weather suddenly becomes cold or at the change of spring and autumn seasons. Or say they always repeatedly “cold” to take cold medicine is not reduced symptoms. In fact, this is not necessarily a “cold”, but is likely to suffer from allergic rhinitis. The common cold is an acute upper respiratory tract infection caused by viruses or bacteria, which is contagious and often accompanied by fever, headache, body aches and other systemic symptoms. Allergic rhinitis, on the other hand, is caused by allergy to a certain substance, and its clinical manifestations are very much like a “cold”, but without the pioneer symptoms and systemic symptoms, the main symptoms are sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itchy nose, itchy eyes and so on. The common allergens in spring and autumn are mainly pollen, and the symptoms often disappear naturally after the season; however, some patients have the disease all year round, and some of them have itchy skin, probably due to allergy to dust mites, molds, animal fur, etc. If you often have nasal symptoms similar to a cold, you should go to the hospital to check whether it is allergic rhinitis, and if necessary, do allergen tests to clarify the diagnosis. If allergens can be detected, avoiding contact is the best choice, but for pollen, mold, dust mites and other allergens can not be avoided, only desensitization treatment can be carried out, the efficiency is more than 80%. At present, the allergic reaction clinic of Jiamusi Central Hospital has been carrying out desensitization treatment for many years, and the reagents are purchased from Peking Union Medical College Hospital, with good response from patients. There are in vivo and in vitro methods to detect allergens. The in vivo method is inexpensive, has a wide variety of tests, and can produce results on the spot, but anti-allergy drugs such as paracetamol should be stopped three days before the test. In vitro method is to take the patient’s blood to determine the specific IgE in the patient’s body through the instrument, this method is more expensive, the results can not be produced at the time, the detection of allergens less variety, not affected by taking medication. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. They can complement each other to improve the positive rate of allergen detection.
