Dust mite allergy protection

Dust mites are closely related to allergic asthma/allergic rhinitis Dust mites (House dust mites), commonly found in the dust of human living environment, many acute allergic reactions in humans such as sudden wheezing, coughing, sneezing, runny nose and generalized wind masses, and even anaphylaxis may be caused by dust mite allergy, dust mites are the most common allergens of allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, and allergic dermatitis. Dust mites are the most common allergens in allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma and allergic dermatitis, and have received increasing attention. Desensitization is the only allopathic treatment, and at the same time, attention should be paid to minimize the concentration of dust mites in the living environment. Dust mite control methods 1. Reduce indoor relative humidity Controlling the relative humidity (RH) below 50% is the most common method to control the level of mites and their allergens, because the surrounding RH is the most critical factor affecting the survival and prevalence of mites. 2. Washing, drying and dry cleaning of bedding Bed sheets, pillowcases, blankets and mattress covers can be washed once a week with hot water equal to or higher than 55℃ to kill mites and remove most mite allergens. Washing with warm or cold water cannot kill most mites, but can remove most allergens. Washing your hair every day is also a good way to control dust mite allergens. 3. Use anti-mite wrapping covers Wrapping mattresses and pillows with special anti-mite materials is an effective way to reduce exposure to dust mites and their allergens. For allergy sufferers, this method is recommended. The packing material consists of plastic, breathable materials, very fine fabric fibers or non-fabric synthetic materials. The ideal material should be a comfortable, breathable fabric that is permeable to vapors and can block the passage of mites and mite allergens. The width of young mites is generally greater than 50 microns, so the fabric is less than or equal to 20 microns can stop all mites through. 4, carpet, curtain and home decoration replacement Carpets, curtains and home decoration fabrics accumulate debris debris and remain damp, providing an ideal habitat for mite breeding. In humid areas, carpets should be replaced with hard surfaces. Window (cloth) curtains or blackout shades should be replaced with blinds, home décor fabrics should be replaced with vinyl or leather cushions, and furniture available in wood. 5.Carpet vacuuming If the family is not willing or financially not allowed to change the carpet, it should be vacuumed once a week and the vacuum cleaner bag should be replaced frequently. Vacuum cleaner bags should be double or high performance air filters or central vacuum cleaner ends leading to the outdoors to avoid the formation of aerosols from allergens during vacuuming. Conventional vacuuming removes surface mites and allergens, but does not significantly reduce the number of live mites or remove deep-seated allergens. Steam cleaning carpets, may be in the carpet residual enough moisture to promote the growth of mites, producing the opposite effect. 6. Freeze soft toys and small items Freezing soft toys and small items (such as pillows and special clothing) at -17°C to -20°C for at least 24 hours is an effective way to kill mites on these items, and further wash these items to remove dead mites and allergens. Leaving mattresses and pillows outside for 24 hours in colder zones is also a good method. 7. Desensitization is the only allopathic treatment In summary, dust mites are the single most important source of indoor allergens in dust in most parts of the world, yet cannot be completely eradicated from the environment. Since dust mites are very closely related to allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis, if symptoms persist, early desensitization is still recommended to address the root cause. The safety and effectiveness of desensitization treatment have been confirmed by many domestic and international studies, and it is a treatment method worth trying.
