What are the disadvantages of drug balloons

The disadvantages of drug balloon include insufficient support and complications during the procedure.
1. Insufficient support: For the diseased blood vessels, since the drug balloon cannot place the implanted device inside the coronary blood vessels, it will lead to insufficient support, and compared with the stent, the stenosis of the blood vessels may occur again.
2. Complications of the procedure: when the drug balloon is needed to dilate the diseased area, it may be over-dilated, which is prone to complications such as vascular entrapment tear and acute occlusion of the coronary artery.
So whether to use stent or drug balloon, need to professional physician’s judgment, according to the patient’s condition, choose the most appropriate treatment plan.
