The most common cause of red bloodshot eyes in children is allergic conjunctivitis, which may be associated with a foreign body sensation, burning sensation, tearing, sticky discharge and other uncomfortable symptoms, and needs to be treated with anti-allergy eye drops; it is also more common in bacterial conjunctivitis, where the discharge is mostly in the form of yellow clumps and is noticeable in the morning, and needs to be treated with topical antibiotic eye drops. It may also be caused by children rubbing their eyes with their hands and clinical observation is often recommended.
