Suddenly accelerated heartbeat and chest tightness

If a patient experiences a sudden increase in heart rate accompanied by chest tightness, the condition may be due to myocardial ischemia caused by tachycardia. Relatively speaking, the faster the heartbeat, the greater the myocardial oxygen consumption, which can induce the appearance of angina pectoris symptoms. In some patients, it is also possible that the heartbeat is accelerated due to acute myocardial ischemia. It is best for the patient to have an electrocardiogram done when the discomfort sets in, and also to have the heart rate and blood pressure measured, which does not exclude hypertension, which triggers this discomfort. If severe arrhythmias are present, antiarrhythmic therapy may be combined to help relieve the symptoms. For example, if the patient is suffering from supraventricular tachycardia, it is recommended that the patient can be sedated with amiodarone, and if the symptoms of chest tightness persist for a longer period of time, it is recommended that the patient should also be checked for cardiac enzymes to rule out the occurrence of acute myocardial infarction.
