Mastering the “ovulation period” is the key to success

Xiao Zhang is one of my old patients, who has been infertile for two years after marriage. After a number of semen routine tests are indicative of weak sperm, forward motion sperm is about 15%. During the treatment period, Zhang also cooperated very much with the medication and conditioning, also gave up smoking and drinking, and lived a very regular life, and politely refused all kinds of social functions, in order to meet a healthy baby as soon as possible through efforts. However, it seems that his various efforts are only in vain, his wife’s side is slow to respond. Then, in desperation, Zhang brought his wife to the Department of Reproductive Medicine for a checkup and found out that his wife’s period was once every three months, so her chances of getting pregnant in a year were much lower than normal. After learning this situation, I instructed the couple to strictly record their basal body temperature, seize the time when they might ovulate, and have purposeful sex. Less than a year later, during an outpatient visit, Zhang happily told me, “Dr. Li, thank you, my wife is pregnant!” Seeing his happy face, I seemed to be thinking about something. Yes, as a doctor, it should be necessary to have a comprehensive knowledge structure, not just be able to prescribe drugs. Male doctors are quite to tell their patients the most basic knowledge about fertility, sometimes it can be very important, even the most critical. Male infertility clinics encounter a lot of them, and very often a very general fertility instruction may solve the problem. It is very important to take advantage of ovulation as discussed here. In ancient times, there was the saying “the time of waiting”, and the only time you can get pregnant is in the days before and after ovulation, which is only a few times a year. As for how to grasp this period, there are many methods, the more classic method is to monitor the basal body temperature to determine the ovulation period, in addition to the hospital ultrasound monitoring ovulation, in short, to do “targeted”, in order to achieve “Dad” career.
