There are five metatarsal bones in the human body, located between the tarsus and the phalanges. If a metatarsal bone is fractured, the recovery process will take about four periods, i.e., hematoma subsiding period, hematoma mechanization period, primitive bone scab formation period, and bone scab remodeling and shaping period. 1. Hematoma subsiding period: After a metatarsal fracture, there will be localized bleeding, and the hematoma will be absorbed and subside after about three weeks. 2. Hematoma mechanization period: 1~2 months after the metatarsal fracture, the hematoma around the affected area will subside, the fracture is basically stable, the pain will gradually decrease, and the original hematoma will start to mechanize into a fibrous bone scab. 3. Primary bone scab formation period: 2~3 months after fracture, the bone of the fracture site is basically healed, the primary bone scab is formed, the pain is basically disappeared, and daily activities can be carried out, but no strenuous activities can be carried out, in order to prevent the affected area from pain again. 4. Scab transformation and shaping period: At this stage, the original bone scab has gradually transformed into a permanent bone scab, and the shape of the metatarsal bone is gradually restored. During the recovery period of metatarsal fracture, patients need to follow the doctor’s instructions, do a good job of wound care, keep the wound clean and hygienic, change the medication regularly, avoid strenuous exercise, so as not to affect the recovery of the wound.
